Students majoring in foreign languages and literatures choose a field of concentration in German, Spanish or French. German majors gain advanced speaking, reading, and writing skills in the language, as well as knowledge of German literature and culture. Selected courses are also available in Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Russian, and classical Greek.

Students must have a 3.0 (weighted/unweighted) GPA in the academic courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada. Students must be graduate of an approved or accredited high school. The minimum scores required for admission are: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 61 (iBT-Internet-Based Test), 500 (Paper-Based Test), or 173 (Computer-Based Test). International English Language Testing System (IELTS- must be academic version) with an equivalency score of 6. Completion of English 101 or equivalent from another U.S. higher education institution.
