History faculty teach students to think contextually, read historical documents, and become better researchers and writers. Courses are offered in African, American, Asian, British and Irish, European, Latin American, and Russian history as well as specialized areas such as American studies, the history of medicine and science, and the history of the American West.

Students must have a 3.0 (weighted/unweighted) GPA in the academic courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada. Students must be graduate of an approved or accredited high school. The minimum scores required for admission are: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 61 (iBT-Internet-Based Test), 500 (Paper-Based Test), or 173 (Computer-Based Test). International English Language Testing System (IELTS- must be academic version) with an equivalency score of 6. Completion of English 101 or equivalent from another U.S. higher education institution.
