Baylor University in Waco, Texas, is a private Baptist university, and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution. Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas, Baylor is the oldest, continually operating university in the state. In this University 80 percent of the students come from within Texas. Housing is available on campus to students. A variety of traditional single-gender residence halls are available for first-year students and are designed to assist students in their transition and success. Separate housing is offered to men and women. Men’s housing is offered at Martin hall and Penland hall, women’s housing at Collins hall, North Russell and South Russell. Each hall is furnished with furniture, telephone, television and has kitchen facility, laundry facility, and bathroom facility. Students can bring their personal computers with them. A resident is provided with one high-speed Ethernet data port to connect personal computers to the residential network. They can also check out laptops at the front desk for a period of 4 hours. Laptops are renewable unless there is a waiting list. All laptops must be returned by 2 am.
