This option is available for students with good academic records who are interested in careers in social services. Students in this option take a set of courses and can arrange to receive academic credit for satisfactory performance in a social service setting under the supervision of professional psychologists and other mental health professionals. The psychological technician option provides students with background knowledge and limited training in the skills most likely to be needed for employment at the Bachelor degree level in an applied setting. Furthermore, the student is expected to take additional courses in relevant areas from other departments in the university.

Students should be a high school graduate from an accredited high school. They should have achieved an ACT score of 21 or above or an SAT (critical reading and math) of 980 or above; or ranked in the top third of the graduating class at the end of the seventh or eighth semester; or completed the precollege curriculum such as English, natural science, math, and social science. In addition to this, if international students meet the academic requirements, Kansas State University may conditionally admit them with no proof of English proficiency. English proficiency requirements for unconditional admission are transfer students from a U.S. institution must have completed both 24 credit hours at an accredited U.S. institution and English Composition I and II with grades of C or better; an IBT (Internet based TOEFL) - composite score of 79 or higher; IELTS - composite score of 6.5 or higher; ACT - English part score of 23 or higher; SAT - verbal part score of 530 or higher; PTE - Pearson Test of English - overall score of 53 or higher; Eiken (Pre-1 score); and four years attendance in a U.S. high school with grades of C or better in all college preparatory courses.
