Accounting is commonly referred to as the language of business. Accounting provides much of the information managers need to make decisions concerning businesses, governmental units, and not-for-profit organizations. Accounting generates information about an organization's resources, the sources of those resources, and how effectively the resources have been used. The accountant prepares and interprets this information and, thus, is an important member of the leadership team of any organization.

Students who graduate from an accredited high school must meet one of the following three requirements: ACT composite of 21 or higher or Rank in the top third of the graduating class or A grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale in the recommended core curriculum courses. International student applicants whose language is not English must take the “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) and have the score sent directly to Emporia State University from the testing center. Applicants are responsible for making arrangements with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and having their scores reported directly from ETS to the Office of International Education.
