The IS major involves the study of how people, data, computer hardware, software, and other technology work together to satisfy the information needs of professionals who are involved in making business decisions. In addition, the IS major also provides a thorough understanding of the business issues that form the environment in which these decisions are made. Modern, competitive corporations require that information systems professionals fully understand the impact of new applications of technology on the company, and are capable of communicating that knowledge.

Students who graduate from an accredited high school must meet one of the following three requirements: ACT composite of 21 or higher or Rank in the top third of the graduating class or A grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale in the recommended core curriculum courses. International student applicants whose language is not English must take the “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) and have the score sent directly to Emporia State University from the testing center. Applicants are responsible for making arrangements with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and having their scores reported directly from ETS to the Office of International Education.
