This program is that graduates will become successful practitioners in engineering and other diverse careers; most graduates will pursue continuing education opportunities relevant to their careers; some graduates will pursue advanced degree programs in engineering and other disciplines; some graduates will pursue professional registration. This program will have an ability to: apply knowledge of science, mathematics, and engineering; design and conduct experiments; analyze and interpret data; design a system, component, or process to meet specifications within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability; function on multi-disciplinary teams; identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems in an environment where hardware and software tradeoffs are necessary; use oral and written communications effectively; and use modern engineering techniques, skills, and tools. Graduates will also have knowledge of the ethical, environmental, safety, and economic factors required for professional engineering practice and contemporary issues necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context. All graduates will have a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, life-long learning. The electrical engineering curriculum establishes a theoretical basis in circuits, electronics, electromagnetics, energy conversion, and controls. It includes a strong laboratory experience stressing system design and implementation.

The required courses are ECE 696 Integrated Circuit Design (3), ECE 725 IC Devices and Proc (3), recommended electives are ECE 641 Adv Digital Des/Logic Synthesis (3), ECE 694 Optoelectronics (3).

Students should be a high school graduate from an accredited high school. They should have achieved an ACT score of 21 or above or an SAT (critical reading and math) of 980 or above; or ranked in the top third of the graduating class at the end of the seventh or eighth semester; or completed the precollege curriculum such as English, natural science, math, and social science. In addition to this, if international students meet the academic requirements, Kansas State University may conditionally admit them with no proof of English proficiency. English proficiency requirements for unconditional admission are transfer students from a U.S. institution must have completed both 24 credit hours at an accredited U.S. institution and English Composition I and II with grades of C or better; an IBT (Internet based TOEFL) - composite score of 79 or higher; IELTS - composite score of 6.5 or higher; ACT - English part score of 23 or higher; SAT - verbal part score of 530 or higher; PTE - Pearson Test of English - overall score of 53 or higher; Eiken (Pre-1 score); and four years attendance in a U.S. high school with grades of C or better in all college preparatory courses.
