This program is over 70 years old and is the oldest University based HIM program in the United States. It is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education. The small, allowing teachers get to know the students. Each student is assigned a faculty mentor in the department upon entry into the program with all classrooms having network capabilities. It is located on the campus of the University Health Sciences Center which provides students an opportunity to interact with others majoring in medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nuclear med tech, nutrition & dietetics and clinical laboratory science.

Students should have a B average in high school chemistry, biology, mathematics and English. An ACT of 20 or above in each area or SAT of 500 or above in each area is also required. Applicants who do not meet all admission requirements should still apply to be evaluated on an individual basis.
