In the Information and Computer Sciences Department nurtures a world-class community of students and faculty dedicated to innovative scientific and information-related research and education for the benefit of the participants, Hawaii, the United States, and the world. Computer Science Mission -- The mission of the Computer Science program is to prepare students to be research and development leaders in computer science and computer technology. To this end, the program is a catalyst and a resource for shaping the future of the broad discipline of computer science. The faculty embraces the mutual interdependence of research and teaching to achieve excellence in both. As part of its mission the program brings the latest research findings into courses and actively involves students in research endeavors of the faculty. The program also provides leadership in the application of high technology to improve the educational experience. Library and Information Sciences Mission -- The mission of the Library and Information Science Program is to educate individuals for careers as librarians and information specialists and to undertake instruction, research and service programs that meet current and emerging library, information and technology needs. The Program supports the Department's and University's missions by developing leadership in a diverse local, national, and international population with an emphasis on Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region.

The University housing program provides on-campus housing to Manoa students in a variety of living arrangements that include apartments and traditional coed facilities, single and double occupancy rooms, suites and apartment units. The University housing program strives to create an atmosphere conducive to the development of responsible citizens in a democratic community. Specific rules and regulations intended to protect the rights of individuals have been developed by the University administration, residential staff and student leaders. Each resident is responsible to know and observe these rules and regulations. Residents who cannot accept these basic rules for community living or cannot extend consideration for the rights of other residents should evaluate their needs carefully before applying for on-campus housing. Contract releases are not granted for reasons of dissatisfaction with a group living environment. The 2008-2009 Academic Year contract provides housing for the Fall and Spring semesters with prices for traditional doubles starting at $3,497 and apartments units starting at $4,631. Meal plans are handled by a private provider, Sodexho, with prices starting around $1,151 per semester, or $2,302 for the academic year. All applicants should review the assignment terms and priorities for the 2008-2009 academic year.
