This program provides students the opportunity to follow a course of study leading to a B.S. in mathematics (licensure). Graduates of this program obtain licensure at the secondary level. The curriculum consists of courses covering the General Education Curriculum (GEC), mathematics and computer science courses, and courses aimed at preparing the students for state licensure.

Students should have an official high school transcript, which lists the date of graduation, class rank and grade point average, and which indicates credit in the following College Preparatory Core (CPC) units in grades 9-2: four units of English; three units of mathematics; three units of sciences; three units of social studies; two units of required electives; 1/2 unit of computer application. International students should have a minimum TOEFL score of at least 527 on the paper-based, 97 on the computer-based or 71 on the internet-based or a score of 6.5 on the IELTS is required. The TOEFL requirement may be waived if the student satisfies one of the following: student has graduated from a high school in the U.S. with attendance in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades with a minimum grade of C in all of their English courses; has completed a secondary school in which English is the language of instruction, in a country where English is the native language (such as U.K., Canada, Australia), with a minimum grade equivalent to a C in all of their English courses and with attendance in the final three years offered; has completed a secondary international school (such as the International Baccalaureate, e.g., or an American high school abroad) in which English is the language of instruction, with a minimum grade equivalent to a C in all of their English courses and with attendance in the final three years offered; has attended the Southern Miss English Language Institute, has earned a Proficiency or 2 on the ELI Proficiency battery, and has the recommendation of the ELI manager and has an SAT verbal score of 480 or an ACT English score of 20.

The Department of Residence Life at Southern Miss offers a safe place for students to live, while making the most of their social and academic lives. With 27 residence halls housing more than 3,000 students, living on campus is convenient and is a great way to get involved. All residence halls offer controlled card access entry, 24-hour front desk assistants and hall staff on each floor. In addition, University police officers assist with desk operations on a nightly basis and patrol the exterior and interior of the halls. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) organizes many fun activities to help build relationships and memories that will last a lifetime. Living on campus means being at the center of classes, student activities and more. When students live in a residence hall, there’s always a friendly face one door down. Students who live on campus show a higher scholastic performance and are more likely to graduate than those who live off campus. Residence Life mission is to provide a premier physical, social and cultural environment that encourages and supports the holistic development of the residential student.

Southern Miss’ main campus sits on 300 acres in the heart of Hattiesburg. More than 180 buildings dot a landscape that has been transformed into a pedestrian-friendly environment for students, employees and visitors. The original campus plan is the work of architect R.H. Hunt of Chattanooga, Tenn., whose design laid out a grand vision for the college. A place where learning, research and social engagement take place, the campus provides indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. The Thad Cochran Center and Union Complex form the hub of student life, housing the main dining facility on campus as well as the university bookstore. The campus master plan provides a guide for enhancing the pedestrian experience, preserving historic buildings and providing open spaces.
