Ophthalmic Technology is a critical specialty in the eye health care team. An Ophthalmic Technologist collects data and performs special testing to aid the Ophthalmologist in diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Ophthalmic Technology lends itself to various avenues of specialization in ophthalmic photography, ophthalmic ultrasonography, contact lens, ophthalmic surgical assisting, low-vision optics. A graduate of the program will be expected to have extensive knowledge of the ocular system, to be proficient in the operation of visual instrumentation, and to develop effective communication skills in working with patients.

Students should hold a high school diploma or an Associate degree from an accredited institution. They should have grades converted to the U.S. grading system by a recognized organization should a non-U.S. grading system have been utilized at the institutions attended; Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last 5 years with a combined score of 800 or greater on the verbal and quantitative sections and at least a 3.5 on the analytic section for non-probationary admission. Preference will be given to candidates with combined verbal and quantitative scores of 1000 or greater. TOEFL score of 108 or greater for internet based tests and 610 or greater for paper based test is required for applicants whose native language is not English.
