This concentration introduces the student to the differences and helps them polish their own management skills for success in today’s environment. To help prepare for management positions, graduate education, or positions that interact with the public sector, students will: Study the tools, techniques, and challenges of managing organizations and people successfully in the public and nonprofit sectors; Study basic leadership principles, strategic planning, modern personnel systems, and performance management; study the new skills that public administrators need to be successful in a rapidly changing environment; examine issues such as teambuilding, contracting, procurement, compliance, grant writing, and outsourcing/insourcing; study short- and long-term financial analysis, policy development, and budget development; examine how the structure of an organization, its culture and climate, and its leadership contribute to its ability to accomplish its mission and goals.

Admission is considered for adult students who hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria: be 24 years old or older; or be active in the military or a veteran; or already have earned 90 college quarter credit hours.
