This program focuses on the human dimension of technological development. Just as advances in computer science have led to changes in relationships, business communication, and accessibility, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and genetic engineering will produce equally broad social changes in the future. Students will emerge from these classes with knowledge both of the relevant technologies and of the myriad social, regulatory, interpersonal, and individual issues surrounding them. The students who complete this track may wish to pursue careers in law, sociology, genetic counseling, humanities, public policy, or journalism.

Students should have 4 years of English, 4 years of Mathematics, including Pre-Calculus, 3 years of Science, including 2 years of labs, 2 years of Social Sciences, Computer, technology, and other courses recommended, but not required. 2 years of a foreign language is also required. Students should have a TOEFL score of 550 on the paper test, 213 on the computer-based test or 80 on the Internet-based test or a minimum overall score of 6.5 on the IELTS. All freshman students and Transfer students with less than 30 credit hours are required to take either the SAT I or ACT test.

The Institute of Psychology is an independent college at Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D. granting university, established in 1890, with programs in engineering, science, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. The first Psychology degrees were awarded by the University in 1926. Seventy years later, in 1996, the Institute of Psychology evolved from the Department of Psychology in Lewis College of Science and Letters. The Institute is housed on the University's 120-acre Main Campus, which was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the 20th century's most influential architects. Today, the Institute of Psychology is uniquely positioned to respond to the demand for mental health care practitioners, educators, top corporate performers and gifted consultants with the skills to understand people in many sectors and settings.

Living on campus will provide with many new freedoms and personal choices. IIT residence halls include a variety of room types. Most rooms in State Street Village feature suites where two student rooms share a connecting bathroom; whereas, most rooms in McCormick Student Village is double occupancy with a common area bathroom. These large, coed halls are located on the east side of campus. State Street Village is the newest residence hall at IIT. SSV consists of three, five-story buildings facing State Street and backing up to the Chicago Transit Authority's Green Line elevated train. The buildings will contain 367 beds in two suite style buildings (two students per bedroom) and one apartment-style building (one student per bedroom). McCormick Student Village is comprised of six interconnected residence halls. The high-rise apartments provide approximately 320 unfurnished apartments for faculty, staff and graduate students. A variety of apartments types are available, including studio, one, two or three bedroom units. The apartments are rented on a 12-month basis and are located on the north side of campus.
