This program is designed to provide students with a good communicative knowledge of both the German and the Russian language and a basic insight into the culture of Germany and Russia. Students must earn a minimum grade of C in each course. All upper-division courses fulfilling the major requirements must be taken in residence with the exception of a maximum of 6 hours of transfer credit. Upper-division transfer credit from a non-UGA study abroad program may be applied to the major, subject to approval by the department, and provided that credit for the appropriate prerequisite (GRMN 2002 or RUSS 2002 or the equivalent) was earned before participation in the program.

The courses are: GRMN 3010 or 3070; GRMN 3020 or 3080; RUSS 3001 and 3002; six additional hours of GRMN courses at the 3000/4000-level (excluding GRMN 3500), one of which may be a GRMN course taught in English translation; six additional hours of RUSS or SLAV courses at the 3000/4000 level, one of which may be a RUSS or SLAV course taught in English translation. GRMN 2001, 2002 (or 2140H); GRMN 2300; LING 2100 or 2100H; RUSS 2001, 2002.

Students should be a high school graduate. They should have an official SAT-I verbal score of 430 or higher; an official TOEFL score of at least 80 on the Internet-based exam or 213 on the computer-based version. TOEFL scores must be less than two years old if you have not been studying at a U.S. institution since taking the exam; an official IELTS score of 7.0 or higher and should take equivalent of English 1101 and 1102 (first-year composition) at an accredited U.S. institution and earn a minimum 2.5 combined GPA for the two courses.
