The department offers a four-year BSSp/MA program for outstanding undergraduate majors. Departmental approval is required before application to the Graduate School, which should be made during the junior year. By the end of the junior year, students should have completed all requirements for the undergraduate major, the field of concentration, and the distribution requirements, with a total of at least 38 units of credit. During the fourth year, students enroll in 9 graduate-level courses to complete work on the master's degree and 3 undergraduate electives to complete work on the bachelor's degree.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in related field. Students whose first language is not English or whose schooling has not been in English are required to submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

The Department of Classics collaborates with other units and colleagues to support interdisciplinary graduate study leading to the doctorate in a variety of fields (e.g., philosophy, political science, comparative literary studies, religion, theatre and drama, English, German). In comparative literary studies, for example, a student may formally choose classics as his or her "home" department. Additional areas of interdisciplinary strength in classical studies and classical traditions at Northwestern include ancient philosophy, political theory, theatre and drama, medieval studies and English. A student interested in Greek and Roman studies and pursuing a doctorate at Northwestern in any of these fields (or who wishes to create a new pathway of study with another field) may affiliate with the Classical Traditions Initiative and enjoy access to all classics activities. The faculty in Classics has particular strength in Greek and Latin poetry, drama, Greek history and politics, ancient philosophy, visual culture, history of medicine, mythology.

The Engelhart Hall residence hall is located on the western edge of campus at 1915 Maple Avenue. The Monthly rent for a two bedroom Apartment is $1250 , One bedroom Apartment is $1150 , one bedroom single is $950 ,and rent for car parking and bicycle parking extra. the McManus Living-Learning Center residence hall is located on the southern edge of campus at 1725 Orrington Avenue and exclusively serves the students enrolled in the MBA program*, their spouses/children/partners, and guests of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. A two bedroom family housing is $1300 , one bed room /two bed room also available with underground heated car parking . The campus bookstore, Wildcard Office, Bursar's Office, Student Accounts, Financial Aid Office are also located in Abbott Hall.
