This program offers a course of study that provides students with an interdisciplinary foundation relevant to work in the public sector. Graduates of this major are prepared to work in government and non-profit organizations. The curriculum focuses on issues related to working with a diverse population in public service organizations in Silicon Valley. The major includes a Social Science Core requirement that provides students with a critical review of social science theory and it’s application in a diverse society. The electives provide an in-depth focus on diversity and topics related to local government and politics.

The mission of the College of Social Sciences is to educate students in human behavior, in its many past and present cultural forms, in individual, group, national and international contexts, and to empower students as democratic participants in a rapidly changing world. Students develop a solid foundation in the social sciences, and understand how knowledge in the social sciences is acquired and evaluated. Students think analytically about themselves and the world in which they live. They prepare for a wide variety of careers in education, the professions, business, government, and social services. This mission is supported by a proud tradition of scholarship, creative activity, and service to the community.

International House is a co-ed residence for 70 US and International students attending San Jose State University. The House is located within 5 minutes walk of the SJSU campus and is a large, comfortable home with friendly interaction among students of many cultures. Single rooms cost an additional $200.00 per semester when available. Double Room ($714/month). Fees include a fully furnished home and bedroom, wireless internet access throughout the House, utilities (electricity, gas, water, waste disposal), well-equipped computer room, a complete meal plan (residents do not need to worry about shopping, cooking, cleaning); a fully stocked kitchen for those who do prefer to shop, cook, and clean (residents provide only their own food), 3 televisions, 2 pianos, on-site parking, and so much more. Spaces in the I-House parking lots are assigned as parking fees are paid. Residents have priority to receive parking and choose a preferred space as the payment is made. Space permitting, parking is made available to non-residents. Parking Rates per Semester for Non-residents is $190.00.
