The UA School of Music is Alabama's comprehensive music school in its Capstone institution of higher education. The University campus is located in Tuscaloosa, in the west-central region of Alabama. Tuscaloosa is 50 miles from Birmingham, Alabama's largest city, and 100 miles from Montgomery, the state capital. The School of Music has 300 music majors and 35 full-time faculty members. The School offers graduate and undergraduate programs. The School of Music is more than a collection of curricular and facilities; it is a community with a unique culture that has evolved over the past century.

Residents of campus housing have access to many resources, including various services and facilities located in and near the residence halls. These include access to: Resnet, Computer Labs, Telecom and Bama Dining locations. Residence Hall Association Bryce Lawn is an upperclassmen apartment community located on Bryce Lawn Drive between Campus and University. Each apartment features three single bedrooms. Each bedroom is furnished with a twin bed, desk, and dresser. The three residents share one full bathroom and a half bath that contains a sink and shower. The living room is furnished with a sofa and chair. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, electric stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, and kitchen table with chairs. The Highlands feature furnished apartments with four students sharing a living/dining room area, kitchen, 3 bathrooms (with 1 shower, 1 bathtub/shower, 2 toilets and 3 sinks) and three bedrooms. The large bedroom is a double bedroom and the two smaller bedrooms are singles. The layout of handicapped-accessible apartments varies in the lakeside residence halls Each private room is furnished with a 3 drawer chest, a split pedestal desk, an upholstered two- position desk chair, and a junior loft bed.
