This program emphasizes the application of scientific and engineering principles to the planning, design, and construction of buildings and building systems. The goal of the program is to provide engineering graduates with the best education available for careers in the building professions. Graduates will have the ability to practice as registered professional engineers in a variety of areas, both public and private, related to the planning, design, construction, and operation of buildings and to assume a place of leadership in society. This option emphasizes building construction engineering and construction management.

Students who have a high school diploma or GED and are eligible for admission to Penn State may apply for admission as first-semester students. First-semester students are those who have not attended any other institution after graduating from high school and/or have accumulated 17 or fewer college credits from another institution after graduating from high school. Credits earned before graduation from high school, such as Advanced Placement credits, International Baccalaureate credits, or credits for courses taken at a local institution, are not considered when determining the type of admission. Any such credits earned before graduation from high school will however, appear on a student's Penn State transcript if the student has them transferred to Penn State. All students who are offered admission to the College of Engineering as first-semester students are admitted with pre-major status (ENGR). Applicants who have earned at least 18 credits from another institution after graduating from high school are considered under the advanced standing or transfer student category for the purpose of admission. International Students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency: A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based exam, or 550 on the paper exam (score reports must be official and cannot be more than two years old); A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 on the academic test; SAT score of 530 or higher on the critical reading or writing section; IGCSE score of A, B, or C on the English language exam, or; IB score of 5 or higher on the English language exam. Applicants who have been in a U.S. college or university and have completed two years of full-time academic course work and have a grade of C (2.0) or higher in a Standard English composition course will also meet the language proficiency requirement.

Founded in 1910, the Architectural Engineering Department at Penn State University has established a long tradition of excellence and educational innovation. It is the oldest, continuously accredited architectural engineering program in the United States. It was first accredited in 1936 by the newly formed Engineers’ Council for Professional Development (forerunner to ABET). The Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (B.A.E.) degree is now accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Widely acknowledged as one of the top Architectural Engineering programs in the world, the Penn State AE Department is dedicated to providing outstanding academic excellence to all of the students. The AE program is focused on preparing students and conducting research in the design, engineering, and construction of building projects.

Penn State Housing, Food Services, and Residence Life provide facilities, services, and special programming that enhance the on-campus living experience. More than 40,000 students are enrolled at Penn State University Park, the administrative hub of the statewide system of campuses. Housing is available for more than 13,000 students, and dining services include residential dining commons, snack bars, and restaurants. Food Services: Penn State offers unparalleled variety and convenience when it comes to Food Services. The University Park campus features seven dining commons, a great coffeehouse, six snack bars, and more - all conveniently located in or near the residence hall areas. Plus, Union Street Marketplace (HUB-Robeson Center), Otto's Café (Kern Graduate Building), and Café Laura (Mateer) offer a complete array of restaurant dining. Residence Life: The mission of Residence Life is to provide a safe, comfortable, secure, and nurturing living-learning environment that is conducive to students' academic pursuits and personal growth while fostering a sense of community, civic responsibility, and an appreciation of diversity. Housing: At all of its residential campuses, University housing is held in high regard. Through the residence system, the University provides convenience, high value, security, and a wide scope of programs and services designed specifically to help students succeed. Most undergraduate students live in North, South, East, West, or Pollock Halls; Eastview Terrace; or Nittany Apartments. Undergraduate students with families may apply to live in White Course Apartments. Single graduate students and students with families are eligible to apply for housing at White Course Apartments. Postdoctoral students are not eligible for on-campus housing. Students who live in White Course Apartments may purchase an A-La Board meal plan.
