पाठ्यक्रमबारे सारश
This program offers undergraduate students an opportunity to pursue studies leading to law school, graduate school, or a career in the administration of justice. The program is structured around a core of criminal justice courses on such topics as law enforcement, the judicial process, juvenile justice, corrections, and the criminal law. Since any criminal justice system does not exist in isolation but naturally reflects the structure, ideas, and concerns of the society in which it operates, the Criminal Justice Program draws from a wide variety of academic disciplines - political science, psychology, history, and sociology. Consequently, graduating criminal justice majors will have achieved the skills and breadth of knowledge expected of well educated men and women in a complex and pluralistic society. An integral component of the Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice is the field experience - a directed practicum with a criminal justice agency that gives the highly motivated student the opportunity to bridge the gap between the theory and the practice of criminal justice. The field experience is an optional course which is graded on a pass/fail basis and counts as a free elective. In the field experience, students are provided the opportunity to work on a firsthand basis in actual agency situations. Each field experience also includes a series of seminars directed by a faculty member and designed to help students integrate the field experience with their classroom learning.

The University of Delaware has a great tradition of excellence, from its founding as a small private academy in 1743, to the research-intensive, technologically advanced institution of today. The University, with origins in 1743, was chartered by the State of Delaware in 1833. One of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States, the University of Delaware traces its roots to 1743 when a petition by the Presbytery of Lewes, Delaware, expressing the need for an educated clergy, led the Rev. Dr. Francis Alison, to open a small school in New London, Pennsylvania. Its alumni tell the story of achievement, from our first class, which included three signers of the Declaration of Independence and one signer of the U.S. Constitution, to the more than 135,000 living Blue Hens who are making vital contributions to the world--in science, business, education, the arts, policy, health care, the environment, and many other areas. It has received its charter from the State of Delaware in 1833 and was designated one of the nation’s historic Land Grant colleges in 1867. Distinguished speaker series, symposia, 23 intercollegiate athletics programs, numerous intramural and club sports, more than 200 student organizations, concerts, exhibits, and other arts and cultural activities enrich campus life. In 2008-09, there are 1,117 full-time faculty positions. Approximately 80% of full-time tenure-eligible faculties are tenured and over 80% of full-time faculty hold the doctorate or terminal professional degree in their field. Average total compensation in 2008-09 is $165,800 for Full Professors, $116,423 for Associate Professors, and $99,072 for Assistant Professors.
