The School of Architecture and Planning is an integral part of the University of New Mexico. While the University was founded by an act of the Territorial Legislature in 1889, the role of designing and building settlements in the Rio Grande valley has been prominent in the development of the region since statehood in 1912. The School has strong historic ties with both the College of Engineering and the College of Fine Arts on the main campus. Beginning in 1937, architecture was offered as a concentration in the College of Fine Arts, and at the end of World War II, building and technology pulled the program to the College of Engineering. In 1957, the Colleges of Engineering and Fine Arts formed a special division of architecture

The university's Residence Life Office believes the residence halls are more than just a place to sleep and study. In addition to academics, the residence life staff plans activities and programs to foster social interaction and develop well-rounded students. This is done through the work of resident advisors, student head residents, desk, mailroom and security staff, and community association members. They also provide para-professional counseling and enforce policies. Residence life includes: hall community associations, resident advisors, social and educational activities, residence hall desks, student discipline, counseling, security, conflict mediation. Students are responsible for cleaning their rooms. Maid and custodian services are provided for public areas of the halls on a Monday through Friday basis, washers and dryers are provided in each residence hall. Mail is distributed through the central mail room facility located behind the 24 Hour Desk in the Student Residence Center Commons Building, vending machines are located in the residence halls for convenience of the residents, a limited number of refrigerator units available for rent each semester. Students wishing to store firearms or other weapons (hunting knives, archery, fencing, or martial arts equipment) may do so at the Campus Police Station. The Computer POD is located on the second floor in the Student Residence Center and is managed by student housing's ResNet staff. POD computers are for the exclusive use of residence hall students.
