This department offers students broad-based exposure to the liberal arts and hands-on experience that prepares them for careers in the mass media and corporate communication. In this department courses are taught from a liberal arts perspective, which puts the focus on the mass media's role in society and how they are intimately connected with politics, business, art and science. Technical courses in audio and video production encourage students to experience new technology while stretching themselves creatively. In all courses students focus on proficiency in writing that is clear, concise and informative. Students can put their classroom knowledge into practice at any of college's campus media. KMSC-fm is heard throughout Sioux City and is the official voice of college's sports. Programs produced by MCTV air on the city's cable access station, and The Collegian Reporter, college's student newspaper, reports weekly on campus events, sports and the arts.

Morningside College Students choose to live on campus as they live close to classes, make lots of friends; find it easier to get involved in organizations and activities on campus; there are always activities going on in the residence halls; the cafeteria is close by; gets the full college experience with better grades. The college's three traditional residence halls are Roadman Hall, Dimmitt Hall, and the Residence Complex. Each of the college's three traditional halls are are split in to smaller floors/wings. The traditional residence halls offer amenities such as kitchens, game rooms, TV lounges, study lounges, laundry rooms and vending. The college also offers three new apartment style residence halls designed around the housing needs of upper-class students. Each apartment offers a kitchenette, bathroom facilities, and private living room; each complex offers laundry and study areas. Poppen Hall and Waitt Hall opened in 2003. Lags Hall, opened in 2007, is the only hall on campus that offers single bedrooms and home to the Morningside College Leadership Academy. The college's housing options include freshman floors, wellness floors, Greek floors, married housing, leadership, and academy. The major services provided for the students living on campus are front desks, guest rooms, programming and activities.
