The program has interests in the theory and applications of statistics. Specific research interests include nonparametric correlation and regression, logistic regression and applications, applications of statistics in ecology and natural resource economics, spatial statistics, and discriminant analysis. A general interest statistics seminar meets weekly. Recent topics include bootstrapping, generalized linear models, general statistical techniques using a nonparametric correlation coefficient, S-Plus, and spatial statistical methods.

Students applying for this program must have all the requested official English language proficiency score report. Students should have 61 iBT (173CBT/500PBT) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or 69 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or 440 on the SAT Writing Section or 18 on the Combined English/Writing section of the ACT. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for freshman applicants or a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for transfer applicants. The admissions office will determine grade point average if one is not available on a student's academic record. Students must have a statement of financial support that verifies that $ 25,563 will be available to the university to cover estimated costs for the academic year.
