This program offers both artistic and applied approaches to the medium, providing a solid foundation for those entering a professional field and those choosing to pursue postgraduate education. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the Photography option sets high standards for production and is one of the few comprehensive four-year photography degree programs in sizable geographical area of the north central and northwest United States. Coursework covers everything from traditional silver-based darkroom to alternative processes as well as a growing emphasis in digital technologies across the curriculum.

Students will be considered for admission on the basis of their secondary school record and their English proficiency. Applicants who meet a TOEFL score of 525(CBT 195), IELTS 6, or A.C.E. Language Institute Level 6 (available at MSU) and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.0 or higher on a four-point scale will qualify for admission.

School is located in Visual Communications Building (also home to Montana PBS) at the corner of 11th Str. and Grant in Bozeman, Montana, it offers excellent film and photography laboratories, studios, analog and digital facilities, and a new Black Box Theater. This brand new 200-seat theater has balcony and projection capability, an events lobby, box office, set construction, storage, loading facilities, costume construction and storage, green room and dressing rooms.

University provides on campus accommodation in nine residence halls with various living options. A room in the residence halls is guaranteed to any student desiring one! The halls offer many services including study rooms, computer facilities and kitchen areas and vary from coed halls to all-male or all-female residences. Options are available for older students, internationals, and those who prefer a quiet or smoke-free atmosphere. The residence halls are convenient and cost approximately US$500/month including meals. Students are encouraged to live in a residence hall during their first term at MSU in order to meet other students in a relaxed, secure and convenient environment. Undergraduates with fewer than 30 semester credits are required to live in a residence hall on campus. Students are urged to apply early for the best choice in halls and rooms.
