The mission of the department is to instill a love for music in the students, the Lehigh University family, and the larger community, through performances given at the highest level possible by the students, faculty, and visiting artists. Further, it seeks to foster the discipline music requires among the students by providing them with musicianship skills, analytical tools, individual instruction, and performance opportunities. It expects to promote musical literacy through exposure to a significant body of music wherein compositions can be viewed as integral works of art and as reflections of the culture and era in which they were conceived. Finally, it strives to develop students’ creative application of these skills and knowledge through composition, performance, and research projects. To these ends, it works to develop each student's potential, recruit ever more talented students to Lehigh, and encourage the creative renewal and growth of the faculty.

All residence halls are close to the classrooms, the dining halls, the fitness center/gymnasium and the libraries. All of Lehigh's first-year residential options provide a safe, well-maintained homelike space to live, study, and learn from other residents. A variety of lifestyle options are available for upper class. The university offers three fantastic complexes: Campus Square, Sayre Park Village, and Trembley Park. The Warren Square complex offers theme housing opportunities for a unique living experience. Each residence hall has special features. The residence halls are staffed and run by talented and supportive people who can help students with any problem they might face at any time of the day or night.
