पाठ्यक्रमबारे सारश
This program teaches a distinctive way of looking at the social world and offers unique insights into social behavior. The concentration in Law and Society is an ideal option for students considering law related careers. Students in the Law and Society Concentration have gone to law school, have taken paralegal training, and have pursued a variety of law related occupations. The Law and Society Concentration enables students to develop a specialized program within the major in Sociology. Students work closely with Dr. Gerry Turkel in creating a plan of study. The plan includes courses in Sociology, course work in related disciplines, and an internship. The internship enables students to gain field experience in such law related sites as law firms, courts, and legal agencies. In the past, students have interned in major law firms, family court, Superior Court, and the Public Defender's Office. This job-related experience has been very valuable in helping students with their career planning. Consequently, sociology majors are found in virtually every possible career - journalism, the criminal justice system, politics, human resources, public relations, public administration. Other majors are found in more applied aspects of sociology, social welfare, health care administration, law and urban studies.

The University of Delaware has a great tradition of excellence, from its founding as a small private academy in 1743, to the research-intensive, technologically advanced institution of today. The University, with origins in 1743, was chartered by the State of Delaware in 1833. One of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States, the University of Delaware traces its roots to 1743 when a petition by the Presbytery of Lewes, Delaware, expressing the need for an educated clergy, led the Rev. Dr. Francis Alison, to open a small school in New London, Pennsylvania. Its alumni tell the story of achievement, from our first class, which included three signers of the Declaration of Independence and one signer of the U.S. Constitution, to the more than 135,000 living Blue Hens who are making vital contributions to the world--in science, business, education, the arts, policy, health care, the environment, and many other areas. It has received its charter from the State of Delaware in 1833 and was designated one of the nation’s historic Land Grant colleges in 1867. Distinguished speaker series, symposia, 23 intercollegiate athletics programs, numerous intramural and club sports, more than 200 student organizations, concerts, exhibits, and other arts and cultural activities enrich campus life. In 2008-09, there are 1,117 full-time faculty positions. Approximately 80% of full-time tenure-eligible faculties are tenured and over 80% of full-time faculty hold the doctorate or terminal professional degree in their field. Average total compensation in 2008-09 is $165,800 for Full Professors, $116,423 for Associate Professors, and $99,072 for Assistant Professors.
