This program offers students the unique opportunity to study and live in a city that is synonymous with styling, fashion and all of the associated industries. Students will network with industry leaders at guest lectures, seminars, and off-campus events; showcase the work to prominent industry representatives and establish vital connections at the Senior Presentation; collaborate with other students on extracurricular projects in the Fabric Styling Club. The BFA program explores design concepts, trend research, aspects of product design, and the preparation of presentation boards. In hands-on classes taught by industry professionals, students will study the role of fabric in fashion and learn about fabric design and styling. Computers are essential to the design process, and students will master the computer skills needed to execute designs and prepare presentations. Students will develop the skills to: make presentations and trend forecasts to industry; visually edit collections; create presentation boards and multimedia presentations; shop markets for trends and ideas; sell the ideas and concepts.

Students must have completed an AAS degree from FIT or an equivalent degree or 60 appropriate credits from a regionally accredited four-year bachelor’s degree program. Those who have completed less than four years of English (not ESL) at a U.S. high school are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS. International students must have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on internet-based (ibt) test, 213 on computer-based test, 550 on paper-based test; IELTS band score of 6.5 in the academic module is required. Applicants who have completed an English composition course at a college in the U.S. are not exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS scores.
