This program is based on the belief that interior designers have design responsibilities for all spaces built for human occupancy. The curriculum prepares the student for challenges found in accepting and analyzing a problem, assessing existing conditions, researching and synthesizing a solution, visually and orally presenting a solution, and reviewing the process for insights for future improvements, all with the goal of creating interior design solutions for the improvement of the physical environment and the protection of the safety of the inhabitants.

Students must have graduated from an accredited high school and strongly recommend that students take the following classes in high school. Students should have a strong ‘B’ average and have completed three units of English and two units each of solid mathematics, social science and natural science. Students should have a minimum combined SAT (combined critical reading/verbal and math) score of 1180 or ACT composite of 26. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet-based), score of 550 (Paper-based) and score of 213 (Computer-based) and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall band and also should have minimum MELAB (official version) score of 80 or higher.

The Department of Design offers the BFA degree with majors in communication design, fashion design and interior design. The MFA degree with a major in design is offered with concentrations in communication design, fashion design and interior design. The three professional programs in the Department of Design share a common mission that prepares students not only to meet, but also to define and re-invent solutions for the fundamental challenges that impact their respective professions in an increasingly changing world. The curricula in each of these programs have been designed and are being taught to help future designers develop the conceptual, aesthetic, analytical and technical skills necessary to achieve these objectives.

The University of North Texas’ 14 residence halls provide students with a wide range of lifestyles. All-female, coed and upper-class halls offer a variety of learning opportunities. Most halls are specially modified to accommodate disabled students. The following list of halls that are available for accommodation Bruce Hall, Clark Hall, College Inn, Crumley Hall, Honors Hall, Kerr Hall, Legends Hall, Maple Hall, Mozart Square, Santa Fe Square, Traditions Hall, Victory Hall, West Hall. Each of these residence halls has its own personality, and various living-learning communities are available. The campus offers numerous options for eating healthy, including salads, sushi and low-fat entrees. Some dining halls provide vegan/vegetarian entrees. All unmarried undergraduate students who have graduated from high school the semester prior to enrolling at UNT, who have completed fewer than thirty (30) semester hours of university work (any hours completed while in high school not included in the thirty hours) and who enroll for nine or more semester hours are required to reside in university operated residence halls under a contractual room and board plan as long as space is available.
