Students choosing the design and technology emphasis, are immersed in a comprehensive program that provides individualized instruction. Multiple opportunities for realized design projects in both the mainstage and studio seasons allow students to gain valuable experience in budget management, work-flow supervision, load-in management, and other practical areas of a professional designer's responsibilities. The design students compile impressive portfolios of realized projects that put them way ahead of their competitors when they hit the job market. With five design and technology faculty on staff, there is an outstanding faculty to student ratio. Students who pursue the BFA with an emphasis in design and technology will graduate with the knowledge and skills to enter a graduate program or the professional field in the areas of costume design and technology, lighting design and scenic design.

The Design and Technology modules include 171 Rendering for the Theatre; 192, 291, 292, 391, 392, 491, 492 Production Studies I-VII; 271 Introduction to Stagecraft; 272 Introduction to Costumes for the Stage; 274 Theatre Design Graphics; 276 Fundamentals of Computer-aided Design for the Theatre. The modules for Theory, History, and Literature include 320 Theory and Practice of Drama; 321 Theatre History I; 322 Theatre History II; 326 Dramatic Literature I; 327 Dramatic Literature II; 374 Introduction to the History of Dress and Decor I; 377 Introduction to the History of Dress and Decor II; 421 Musical Theatre History and Literature I; 422 Musical Theatre History and Literature II. The other theatre requirements include 481 Directing; 499 Senior Review.

Applicants who have completed 12 years of primary and secondary school and received a high school diploma or the equivalent may be admitted if at least one of the following criteria is met: high/secondary school diploma with a minimum 3.20 Grade Point Average (no SAT or ACT entrance exam required unless applying for Academic Excellence Scholarship); high/secondary school diploma with a minimum 2.50 Grade Point Average and a score of 760 or above on the SAT Entrance Exam or 16 and above on the ACT Entrance Exam; high/secondary school diploma with a class rank in the top 50% and a score of 760 on the SAT Entrance Exam or 16 and above on the ACT Entrance Exam; high/secondary school diploma with a minimum 2.00 Grade Point Average and a score of 860 or above on the SAT Entrance Exam or 18 and above on the ACT Entrance Exam. Applicants whose native language is not English should have a minimum TOEFL score of 79-80 in internet based or 213 in computer based or 550 in paper based (or) IELTS score of 6.
