The Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training is a CAATE accredited education program designed for students who desire to become certified athletic trainers. The student who completes the program requirements satisfactorily will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam for athletic trainers. Students interested in the athletic training education program must formally apply to be accepted in this program. The Athletic Training Education Program is divided into two phases. Phase I, Pre-Professional Program, consists of pre-requisite requirements that must be satisfactorily completed for the Athletic Training Education Program.

The modules include HL 155 First Aid and Personal Safety, HL 524 Ergogenic Issues in HPER, PE 266 Technology in HPER, PE 271 Intro to Athletic Training, PE 272 Intro to Athletic Training Lab, PE 273 Organization and Administration of Athletic Training, PE 274 Clinical Education I, PE 275 Clinical Education II, PE 345 Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, PE 346 Clinical Education III, PE 347 Clinical Education IV, PE 360 Exercise Physiology, PE 362 Kinesiology, PE 481 Modality Usage in Athletic Training.

Students who graduate from an accredited high school must meet one of the following three requirements: ACT composite of 21 or higher or Rank in the top third of the graduating class or A grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale in the recommended core curriculum courses. International student applicants whose language is not English must take the “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) and have the score sent directly to Emporia State University from the testing center. Applicants are responsible for making arrangements with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and having their scores reported directly from ETS to the Office of International Education.
