This program blends the concepts of classical audio engineering with modern-day applications, including multimedia components, digital technology, computers, and network systems to give students a strong set of skills with which to enter the field. It features a strong laboratory component, allowing them to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world settings. It encourages learning through hands-on projects in recording studios and electronics labs, using state-of-the-art equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, and frequency counters to test and verify the operation of commercial audio products. This 126-credit-hour program prepares students to graduate with an in-depth knowledge of one or more of the following topics: analog audio systems, digital audio systems, audio production, and audio application. Graduates with a degree in Audio Engineering Technology have many career options such as advertising and public relations; audiology; audio systems design; broadcasting; film and video; industrial and environmental sciences; music and performing arts; sports and entertainment; technical sales and marketing.

Students must have completed high school diploma or GED equivalent. The high school course work includes algebra one and two; one semester of trigonometry, pre-calculus or senior math; two semesters of chemistry and physics. They should have a recomputed overall GPA of 2.50 or better in academic subjects, which include language and literature, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. They must possess American College Test (ACT) or Standard Achievement Test (SAT) scores. International students must have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test, or 79 on the internet-based test or a score of 6.0 on IELTS (International English Language Testing System). If a student does not want to take the TOEFL or did not pass the TOEFL, they have an option to complete ESL courses at LTU.
