This program is to produce graduates who pursue careers related to biological engineering based on a solid educational background in appropriate mathematics, physical and life sciences, liberal studies and engineering and produce graduates who pursue advanced degrees in engineering and related professional fields. This program is to relate the broader biological engineering program to the individual’s interest in preparing for an industrial career or graduate study in areas related to human medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry. The concentration should guide the individual in choosing elective subjects that they will use in their life after graduation. Many students participate in: industry internships and cooperative education, research assistantships on campus, community service projects, design competitions, off-campus study, including study abroad.

Students must meet the following preparatory courses: 16 units, including four of English, three of mathematics (including precalcu¬lus), three of science (including one of biology, and one of chemistry or physics) and also recommended an additional unit of advanced mathematics and science. Students seeking admission must have the equivalent of an American high school education at the time of admission. International students whose first language is not English must have taken the TOEFL/IELTS exam. A minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on internet-based test and the recommended minimum IELTS score of 7 is needed to be considered for admission. They will waive the TOEFL and/or IELTS requirement for students who have achieved a score of 670 or higher on the Critical Reading section of the SAT Reasoning Test.
