The College of Arts and Sciences at UVM combines the advantages of a small liberal arts college and the resources of a major research institution. It provides students with a sound liberal education through close interaction with nationally and internationally noted scholars. This close interaction helps students acquire knowledge and scholarly discipline that enables them to think critically about issues they will confront in their professional and personal lives. The College's academic programs acquaint students with the intellectual, cultural and aesthetic heritage of the complex world. The programs also seek to prepare students for entry into rewarding careers in a variety of fields and for advanced study that may be prerequisite to other opportunities.

UVM's residence halls house approximately 5,500 students on four residential campuses and Apartments: Athletic Campus, Central Campus, North Campus, and Redstone Campus. In addition to traditional residence halls, ResLife’s Apartments and Family Housing (AFH) offers 120 apartments for nontraditional students, graduate students, and students with families. In traditional residence halls the rooms may be doubles, suites, triples and, occasionally, singles. Telephones, cable and computer network hookups are standard equipment, along with beds, dressers and/or stand-up closets. Students will find study areas, kitchen facilities and recreation lounges just steps away.
