In this program, students will learn to navigate the complex global marketplace, including the financial, legal, logistical, and intercultural aspects of importing and exporting. Students will study international finance, business strategies, fashion law, and market research strategies. Classroom studies are supplemented with visits to corporate, customs, finance, and government offices. Studying with faculty who work in various segments of international business, students will experience firsthand the real-world activities of global businesses, and graduate prepared to work in international trade and global fashion companies. In this program, students will: gain experience through an internship at an international company based in New York; connect with industry leaders and government trade officials through guest lecture series, such as Talking Trade at FIT, mentoring programs, and field trips; participate in extracurricular activities, like the International Trade Students Association, which organizes events such as trips to the Magic Market place (the fashion business trade show in Las Vegas) and meetings with trade representatives in Washington, D.C.; have extensive networking and career development opportunities through the program’s close ties to the International Trade Alumni Network (ITAN) and have the opportunity to earn prestigious scholarships. Graduates work in import/export, international finance, international logistics, marketing and international licensing, and merchandising. They are employed as: account manager, international sales manager, international buyer, import specialist or manager, traffic manager, logistics specialist or manager, transportation manager, customs brokerage manager, director of operations, international production coordinator, project coordinator, international licensing specialist or director, international credit specialist, financial analyst, sustainability specialist or manager, environmental and social compliance inspector, international entertainment agent and import/export and international trade companies. Graduates have been placed at both multinational companies and government agencies including: Tiffany and Company, Nicole Miller, Liz Claiborne, Redcats, Lily Pulitzer, Iconix Brand Group, Donna Karan, Theory, Ecclissi, Lord and Taylor, Haddad Organization, Ltd., Abhishek Industries, Ltd., Samsung, Marubeni Corporation, Coleman Research Group, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Foreign Policy Association, United States Council for Business, Cal Safety Compliance Corporation, Lild Supermarkets, UK, Columbia University and Li and Fung.

Students must have completed an AAS degree from FIT or an equivalent degree or 60 appropriate credits from a regionally accredited four-year bachelor’s degree program. Those who have completed less than four years of English (not ESL) at a U.S. high school are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS. International students must have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on internet-based (ibt) test, 213 on computer-based test, 550 on paper-based test; IELTS band score of 6.5 in the academic module is required. Applicants who have completed an English composition course at a college in the U.S. are not exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS scores.
