This program prepares students for careers in industry and for entry to graduate school or professional schools in areas of chemistry, medicine, dentistry or law. It includes solid emphasis on laboratory skills, scientific principles and mathematics in practical, industrially-oriented areas of chemistry. Students can specialize or explore a particular area of chemistry or prepare for an advanced degree by selecting from a wide range of technical electives. It is recommended that each student carry out an undergraduate research project with a faculty mentor. The faculties have expertise in areas such as energy, fuels, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, materials, environmental chemistry and pollution control. Research areas include analytical and environmental chemistry at industrial and microchip scales, synthesis of organic and inorganic materials in green solvents, computer-aided drug design, and laser diagnostics of elementary processes, kinetics, thermo chemistry and thermodynamics.

Students should have a high school academic record. The average composite SAT score for enrolling freshmen is 1140. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required of all applicants whose first language is not English. The minimum score required is 79 for the Internet-based TOEFL exam, 213 for the computer-based TOEFL exam, or 550 for the paper TOEFL exam or 6.0 for the IELTS exam.
