This Specialization provides the necessary requirements for application into PSU’s Graduate Teacher Education Program.

Modules include: ED 420 Intro to Education; SW 301 Intro to Social Work or COUN 441 Intro to Counseling; PHE 365 Health Promotion Programs for Children and Youth; SPED 418 Survey of Exceptional Learners; SOC 337U Minorities; HIST 343 History of American Families; CFS 494, 495, 496 Professional Development in CFS I, II, and III; CFS 480 Societal Influences on Professional Practice; CFS 491/591 Conceptual Foundations in Children, Youth and Families; CFS 492U Families Law and Policy: Effects of Legislation and Policies on Children and Their Families; CFS 481 Family Health Issues; CFS 409 Practicum; CFS 498 Advanced Practicum; ART 312 Art in the Elementary School; LIB 428 Children’s Literature, K-5; MATH 211 Foundation of Elementary Mathematics I; MATH 212 Foundation of Elementary Mathematics II (4) If taken at a community college, Math 211, 212, and 213 are all required.

Applicant must have completed high school or secondary school with a cumulative (overall) grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 3.0 (when converted to the U.S. 4.0 grading scale). They are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores; however, a low GPA can be offset by an SAT score of 1000 or ACT score of 21. Applicant must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting the following test results: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores for Paper-based test (PBT) 525, Computer-based test (CBT) 197, or Internet-based test (IBT) with minimum sub scores of 16 for reading and listening, and 14 for speaking and writing or IELTS scores of 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 in each band.
