This program is for students with a strong interest and commitment to that field; however, students in the general civil major can still take a diverse set of courses related to the environmental engineering and other fields.

Students must meet the following preparatory courses: 16 units, including one of chemistry, one of physics, and four of mathematics (two of algebra, one of geometry, and one of calculus) and also recommended: computer science, biology, and a foreign language for those who may want to study abroad. Students seeking admission must have the equivalent of an American high school education at the time of admission. International students whose first language is not English must have taken the TOEFL/IELTS exam. A minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on internet-based test and the recommended minimum IELTS score of 7 is needed to be considered for admission. They will waive the TOEFL and/or IELTS requirement for students who have achieved a score of 670 or higher on the critical reading section of the SAT reasoning test.
