The mission of this program is to provide a quality education in the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes required to follow good laboratory practice in providing quality testing for the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of disease. The educational program is located on the Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis campus at the Clarian Pathology Laboratory Building. Clinical laboratory science is a diverse, science-based profession aimed at accurate performance of clinical laboratory procedures on biologic samples from patients. Physicians use the results from these procedures in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating diseases. Laboratory personnel continually evaluate the quality of the results from procedures and instruments and solve any problems that relate to inconsistencies. Excellent communication skills are required to interact with other members of the health care team, to teach, and to manage individuals under their supervision. Clinical laboratory scientists typically work in laboratories located in hospitals, clinics, physician group practices, blood centers, medical research facilities, or medically oriented industries. Students who successfully complete the senior/professional year of the clinical laboratory science program and have a baccalaureate degree are eligible to take national certification examinations. Nationally recognized certification is a requirement for employment in many settings. There is no state licensure in Indiana; however, some states require licensure in addition to or instead of national certification for practice.

Applicants must have completed the entire primary/secondary university preparatory sequence in the country where they studied or completed a challenging course of study in secondary school designed to prepare them for study at a university including math and science or graduation diploma, school certificate, or certificate of education with strong grades or marks in secondary school course work and/or examinations with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must have the SAT verbal results of 400 or 17 English ACT. International applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 500(paper-based version), 173 (computer-based version), 61 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 5.5 or score of 45 on Pearson Test of English Academic or to study English intensively at the ELS Language Centers at IUPUI and complete ELS intensive Level 109. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken. After being admitted, students may require to take one or more supplemental EAP courses to develop additional language proficiency if TOEFL scores are below 80 (iBT), 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) in IUPUI EAP placement test.
