The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders established in 1941 with the founding of The University of Texas at Austin Speech and Hearing Clinic, this is the oldest program of its kind in the state of Texas. Originally housed in the Department of Speech Communication, a separate Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders was established in 1998. In 1979, the School of Communication became the College of Communication. At official ceremonies in April 1982, the three buildings comprising the communication complex were named the Jesse H. Jones Communication Center in honor of Mr. Jones, founder of the Houston Endowment, donor of the College's first and largest endowment. The Jesse H. Jones Communication Center houses the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

The Division of Housing and Food Service is dedicated to providing quality food service to the university community. All dining venues are open to anyone who visits campus. It encourages everyone to experience the convenience and variety offered in each of its dining locations. It accept Cash, Bevo Bucks and Dine in Dollars (10%discount) and major credit cards. On-campus housing can hold more than 7,100 students. Jester Center is the largest residence hall with its capacity of 2,945. Academic enrollment exceeds the capacity of on-campus housing; as a result, most students must live in private residence halls, housing cooperatives, apartments, or with Greek organizations and other off-campus residences. The Division of Housing and Food Service, which already has the largest market share of 7,000 of the estimated 27,000 beds in the campus area, plans to expand to 9,000 beds in the near future.
