The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is comprised of programs in elementary education and secondary curriculum, teaching, and learning. The mission of the College of Education is to offer exemplary professional programs to prepare educators to be reflective practitioners and effective decision makers who facilitate student learning. The cost of living in Tuscaloosa is lower than in many other cities. An average two bedroom apartment off campus rents for about $450 per month. For a $40 membership fee, students can join the Off-Campus Association (OCA). The OCA is a nonprofit organization that allows its members — composed of students, staff, and faculty of The University of Alabama to receive significant savings on public utility deposits (electricity and natural gas). The University maintains more than 200 student apartments geared toward graduate/older students, which offer both the benefits of independent living and the convenience of campus housing.
