This program is designed to provide an understanding of humankind’s cultural and physical environments by examining the dynamic systems (both natural and human) through which these diverse settings are changed or sustained. Students analyze social and environmental change as they affect local areas and regions and compare solutions which have been attempted in various parts of the world. Attention is given to the relationships between population use of resources and environmental and social impacts in rural and urban settings. This option prepares students for careers in the rapidly expanding field of spatial data systems for land use management, local government and environmental protection. It emphasizes technical skills such as air photo interpretation, computer cartography and geographic information systems (GIS) software and techniques.

Applicant should be graduates of U.S. high schools, accredited international high schools, and U.S. dependent's high schools overseas must submit an American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. They should complete a comprehensive pattern of college preparatory study with grades of C or better in all subjects and have a grade point average of B/3.0 or better (A=4.0) for study since 10th grade is required. An applicant with grade point average of 3.61 is not required to submit test scores. They should have TOEFL scores with a minimum of 195 on the Computer-Based or 525 on the Paper-Based or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum required overall band score.
