This program concentration prepare students to teach and work collaboratively within the school setting in grades 6-12. Coursework includes exposure to concepts in health and training in teaching methods. Because schools are part of a larger community, coursework extends beyond the classroom experience and examines programming issues involving the community at large. Students are given opportunities to practice skills learned. The combination of courses and experiences provides for a well developed education in health content as well as in planning, implementing, and evaluating school and community programs and interventions.

Students must have secondary school evaluation report, official high school or college transcripts, a minimum ACT score of 20 or a minimum SAT combined score of 950 (critical thinking + math), a minimum TOEFL score (UAB code 1856) of 500 on the written examination, or a score of 173 on the computer-based version, or 61 on the Internet-based version or IELTS score of 5.5 overall bandwith with no less than a 5.0 on any module for international students whose native language is not English.
