The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia, Mo., as the first public university west of the Mississippi River and the first state university in Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase territory. MU provides all the benefits of two universities in one it is a major land-grant institution and Missouri's largest public research university. Mizzou has a diverse enrollment with 30,200 students from every county in Missouri, every state in the nation and 100 countries. Students will find two high-tech design labs, a digital television editing lab, three major writing labs and two world-class newsrooms one is an NBC affiliate and the other an NPR affiliate, Museum of Anthropology has four major collections, a 20,000-square-foot temperature-controlled storage space for the collections and four dedicated laboratories, The Research Reactor, Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and the Alpine Tower.

University Student Apartments are available only for students who are married, have children, are single graduate students, or are students over the age of 21.
