This department offers a broad, integrated, and in-depth approach to the life sciences. Departmental requirements consist of a balanced core of courses selected from several subject areas, combined with elective courses from the Department of Biology and other life science departments such as Anatomy and Physiology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Several options are available to students. It has approximately 500 undergraduate and 40 graduate students. We award over 130 Bachelors and about a dozen graduate (Master's and Ph.D.) degrees per year. Its faculty consists of approximately 20 tenure track faculty with over a million dollars in research productivity and expertise in areas such as animal and exercise physiology, cell and molecular biology, toxicology, parasitology, and aquatic ecology. In addition, the department office support staff includes 2 advisors who assist students with choosing a program that satisfies their goals, needs and academic progress.

This university provides campus housing to students through residential halls and apartments. All students are eligible to be accommodated in Hamilton Hall; it has double and triple occupancy rooms. Students who are in the University Honors Program are eligible to be accommodated in Honors Community, it has double occupancy rooms.
