This university is first public institution of higher learning was first laid in 1961, when Dayton was the second-largest metropolitan area in Ohio that had no public higher education facility, it is about 557 acre and its Lake campus is about 173 acres. The main campus in Fairborn is located 11.6 miles and 15 minutes east of downtown Dayton and the Lake Campus is located on the shore of Grand Lake St. Marys, between Celina and St. Marys, Ohio. The university will be a catalyst for educational excellence in the Miami Valley, meeting the need for an educated citizenry dedicated to lifelong learning and service. To those ends, Wright State will provide: access to scholarship and learning; economic and technological development; leadership in health, education, and human services; cultural enhancement; and international understanding while fostering collegial involvement and responsibility for continuous improvement of education and research. The university's Ervin J. Nutter Center, a state-of-the-art facility and home to Wright State athletics and Dayton Bombers hockey, hosts over 20 national touring concerts and performances each year. With a seating capacity of 12,000, the Nutter Center is continually ranked nationally among venues of its size. The contemporary Berry Room holds 250 people for weddings, receptions, conferences, and seminars.

This university provides campus housing to students through residential halls and apartments. All students are eligible to be accommodated in Hamilton Hall; it has double and triple occupancy rooms. Students who are in the University Honors Program are eligible to be accommodated in Honors Community, it has double occupancy rooms.
