The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources cultivates an appreciation and enhanced understanding of ecological and social processes and values aimed at maintaining the integrity of natural systems and achieving a sustainable human community in harmony with the natural environment. It pursues this goal by generating and broadly disseminating knowledge and by challenging students, colleagues, and citizens to acquire knowledge, skills, and values to become innovative, environmentally responsible, and accountable leaders. Excitement for discovery and a commitment to life-long learning are central. The emphasis on the integration of natural science and cultural perspectives reflects the interdisciplinary context in which ecosystem management, resource planning, and environmental concerns must be addressed.

UVM's residence halls house approximately 5,500 students on four residential campuses and Apartments: Athletic Campus, Central Campus, North Campus, and Redstone Campus. In addition to traditional residence halls, ResLife’s Apartments and Family Housing (AFH) offers 120 apartments for nontraditional students, graduate students, and students with families. In traditional residence halls the rooms may be doubles, suites, triples and, occasionally, singles. Telephones, cable and computer network hookups are standard equipment, along with beds, dressers and/or stand-up closets. Students will find study areas, kitchen facilities and recreation lounges just steps away.
