This program is developed to prepare students for private studio teaching and/or further graduate study for careers in professional performance and college teaching. This degree program is ideal for students interested in performance careers.

The following are the modules: Major (77-84): Core (62-63): MUSM 101, 111, 125, 202, 203, 205, 212, 213, 304, 305, 351, 352, 353, 402; MUSP 270; 2 semesters at 2 credits of applied major (at 100 level); 2 semesters at 3 credits of applied major (at 200 level); 4 semesters at 3 credits of applied major (at 300-400 level); MUSP 396 (corequisite of 300 level applied major), 496 (corequisite of 400 level applied major), The following applies to piano pedagogy only: MUSP 396 for 2 cr. or MUSP 496 for 2 cr. Electives: (Choose one) MUSM 301 (one year required to fulfill elective requirement), 403, or 433; 4 semesters of applied piano (non-pianists) and completion of piano proficiency or 4 semesters of applied minor instrument (pianists); Choose one of the following emphases: Piano Pedagogy (16): 2 semesters of major performing organization; 3 semesters of elective ensemble or chamber music; MUSE 334, 430, 431, 477, 478; MUSM 436, MUSP 405.

Applicants must have four years of English including composition and literature, three years of social studies including one year each of U.S. history and geography, three years of math including two years of algebra and one of geometry, two years of the same world language, one year in an area of the arts, three years of science including one year of each of a biological and physical science and one year laboratory experience. International applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements: meet the score of 61 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT) or 500 for the Institutional (paper) TOEFL or 500 standard on International (paper) Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Apart from this they must also have 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), 70 on Michigan, SAT critical reading score of 370, graduation from an English-medium high school with a 2.5 (cumulative equivalent) GPA or higher.
