This program is designed for students seeking a broad scientific base for pursuit of careers in professions that may utilize environmental knowledge, such as land-use planning, law, political science or economics and therefore includes several courses in or related to a cross-disciplinary department of the student’s choice. These courses may provide the basis for the completion of a minor in that department. Students planning to pursue initial teacher certification to teach in grades 6-12 will usually select the emphasis in earth science education, but completion of the emphasis does not fulfill all the requirements for initial teacher certification.

The courses are: GEOL 120 - Introductory Geology and GEOL 121 - Introductory Geology Laboratory, GEOL 201 - The Professional Secondary Science Teacher, GEOL 301 - The Interdisciplinary Secondary Science Teacher, GEOL 322 - Paleogeography, Paleoclimatology, Paleoecology, GEOL 325 - Solid Earth Composition, GEOL 330 - Global Cycles, GEOL 335 - Dynamics and Structure of the Earth, GEOL 401 - The Secondary Earth Science Teacher, GEOL 475 - Science Across Time and Culture, GEOL 483 - Interdisciplinary Teaching of Science in Secondary Education.

Students should possess High School Diploma and should have GPA score of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 (USA) scale or be in the upper-half of their graduating class. Applicants who have a GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or are in the upper-half of the class must have ACT composite score of at least 19 and SAT score of 870-900. Applicants who have 2.50 on a 4.00 scale or are in the upper two-thirds of the class must have ACT composite score of at least 23 and SAT score of 1030-1050. Students should have TOEFL scores which includes 527 on a paper based test, 197 on computer-based test or 71 on an internet based test. IELTS Score includes 6.0. Students need not submit TOEFL/IELTS score, if they can prove English is recognized as their countries' native language and if they have attended a US High School for more than 1 year.
