The department offers curriculum designed not only to enable students to pursue careers in mathematics or statistics, but also to better prepare students for careers in business, education, engineering, and the physical, life and social sciences. To participate in a technological society and a competitive global environment, graduates need a strong foundation in analytical thinking, data analysis, problem solving, and modeling. These essential skills are developed and honed in mathematics and statistics coursework.

New students arriving at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) from abroad are required to make timely application if they wish to reside in an on-campus residence hall. All students should complete an on-campus residence hall contract by August 1, 2008 for fall semester 2008. If students are unable to make this deadline, there will be no guarantee to make accommodations off-campus. Students who have completed the housing contract and who are planning to live on campus for the semester, are granted 'temporary' housing prior to the first day of classes, but there is a fee for this. There is an estimated $115 per week charge for students moving in before August 23. The earliest move-in date is August 16th. For a new international student applicant, the residence hall room will be reserved if the housing office receives the housing form and deposit check by the deadline. If application for housing arrives after the deadline and there are still rooms available and students will be able to get a room on-campus.
