The Department of Chemistry and Physics provides comprehensive major programs in Chemistry and Physics and teaches disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses in the Core Curriculum.The programs are designed to provide depth in the discipline through sequential study. Emphasis is placed on scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and problem solving. Recognizing that there is a profound connection between analytical thinking and the ability to express ideas clearly, the Department provides opportunities in its courses for writing on science topics and for oral reports.

All halls are located on main campus and provide study areas, recreation rooms, laundry facilities, kitchens and computer stations. All rooms are equipped with telephone, Internet and cable television access. Typically, two students share a room and four students share a bathroom in what are known as “suite-style” residence halls. There are a limited number of private rooms, where students have their own room and share a bathroom with one other student. There is a common kitchen/living room area in each residence hall that all residents in that building share. GCSU offers a number of choices for on-campus living, from the traditional residence hall on main campus to apartment-style living at The Village. Living on campus is a good way to make friends and to adjust to life at GCSU.
