The School of Public Health is pleased to join with the SUNY Downstate Medical Center Occupational Therapy Program to offer students the opportunity to earn two degrees- an MS in Occupational Therapy and MPH in a concurrent program over 3.5 years. Occupational therapists are professionals who specialize in the promotion of meaningful activity engagement as a conduit to health and quality of life. Traditionally employed in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, private practices, nursing homes, and schools, occupational therapists assist individuals with illness or disability to resume participation in valued activities. More recently, occupational therapists have demonstrated critical roles in fostering health through activity adaptation in community agencies, work-related ergonomics programs, and NIH-funded intervention trials.

Students should have a baccalaureate degree from a CHEA regionally accredited college or university; and a minimum undergraduate cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Medical College Application Test (MCAT), Law School Admission Test (LSAT), Dental Admission Test (DAT) or Optometry Admission Test (OAT) scores received within five years of application are required for admission. In addition to this, students whose native language is not an English they must have a minimum TOFEL score of 564 on paper based exam, 223 on computer based exam, 79 – 95 on internet based exam.
